If you could be anything, doesn't that create the greatest freedom?

Meaning & History

About 17 years ago I came up with the name for my “creative stuff”. In Dutch it was “Alles kunnen zijn” and became “Being Anything” in English. At that time I thought my creativity was about writing stories or even novels. I was wrong there! In 2017 I started with graphic design and learned pointed brush calligraphy. My joy is in drawing letterforms but my focus constantly changes so it went to photography, photo manipulation, animation, drawing, magic and programming. After going back and forth it became so frustrating that I didn’t do much of any of it.

A few years ago I was delving into Oscar Wilde and came across this paragraph:
“If you want to be a grocer, or a general, or a politician, or a judge, you will invariably become it; that is your punishment. If you never know what you want to be, if you live what some might call the dynamic life but. What I will call the artistic life, if each day you are unsure of who you are and what you know you will never become anything, and that is your reward.”

I added the meaning of creativity and activity. Being Anything is an action that you can use to create, to think, to dream. As a constant motion that never sets into a vast form. The reward is being free to create in whatever form I like.
